YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Registration for flag football leagues for ages 5- 7 and 8-10 will be offered at the E.E. Waddell Community Center and the Albemarle Parks and Recreation offices through September 3rd. Cost is $15 for city residents and $30 for non-residents. Games will be played on Saturdays beginning in mid- September. Call 704-984- 9569 for details.


2nd Annual Red Bridge 5K Classic Locust

September 11, 2010 -

Cash Fishing Tournament
God's Country Outfitters Cast for Cash Fishing Tournament (Tickets on Sale) September 01, 2010 - September 16, 2010

The "God's Country Outfitters Cast for Cash" Fishing Tournament will take place from September 23 - 26, 2010! There will be over 30 tagged fish in Lake Tillery worth anywhere from $10 - $100,000 a piece! In addition, just for signing up for the tournament you are registered for the Drawing that will be held during the Tournament!

Run the Valley 5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon Badin, NC

8:15am - 1:00pm September 18, 2010 -
Run the Valley has grown from a small town event to a regional race. You can choose to run the 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon. All courses begin at the Badin Post Office and take the runners down Valley Drive through the beautiful countryside of Stanly County. Deemed as the most challenging half marathon in North Carolina, Run the Valley Half takes its participants to the top of Morrow Mountain for a quick view before turning around and heading back to Badin. 5K, 8:15 a.m., Preregistration: $15, Race Day: $20 10K, 8:15 a.m., Preregistration: $25 , Race Day: $30Half Marathon, 7:30 a.m, Preregistration before 8/31: $35, Preregistration after 8/31: $45 Fun Run, 9:30 a.m., $5. Registration is limited to 125 runners for the Half Marathon. There are no limits for the 5K or 10K. Brain Gym

Brain Gym is a program of 26 easy movements that integrate the brain and the body. It is like a set of tools that can be carried with a person into any situation. It is an anywhere, anytime technique that can calm the body;s stress responses creating connections between the hemispheres of the brain across the corpus collosum. Brain Gym is used with high performance Olympic athletes, senior citizens desiring to improve cognitive skills, recovering stroke patients, sales teams, students from every ability level and much more. This class will be taught by Lainie Shimpock Cribb who has a BS in Speech & Language Pathology and Hearing Sciences and is also a certified school teacher and certified in learning disabilities. The cost for the class is $25 per person. Classes will be Wednesdays (at the Senior Center, 283 N. Third St., Albemarle), beginning Sept. 8 from 10:30am-11:30am for 6 weeks. SILVER FOX EXERCISE CLASS

HIKING CLUB!!

The Uwharrie Hikers, a new hiking club for residents of Stanly, Montgomery, and Randolph counties (and neighboring areas) has been formed and invites members of all ages who enjoy the outdoors to join us for regular hikes and outings. There is no fee to join the club, but members must complete an Albemarle Parks and Recreation release and information form before participating in any club event. LOANER RODS AND REELS AVAILABLE (Ongoing Program)
Whether you want to tangle with the legendary monster catfish in Badin Lake or fill up a stringer on Rocky River, first-time and novice anglers in Stanly County are encouraged to borrow rods and reels free of charge to get in on Stanly County's hot fishing action this spring and summer. The loaner rods and reels are located at Rock Creek Park and provided by the Albemarle Parks & Recreation and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC), through the WRC's Fishing Tackle Loaner Program. For fishing information and a complete list of the NCWRC's Community Fishing and Tackle Loaner Programs sites contact Albemarle Parks and Recreation Department at (704) 984-9561 or contact the N.C.
